The Chinese EV company NIO is expanding deeper into Europe, and Romania is next. In partnership with Hungarian auto dealer AutoWallis, NIO is bringing its premium smart electric vehicles and its new urban EV brand, firefly, to local drivers.
NIO’s initial offering in Romania will include top-performing electric vehicles NIO EL6 – smart all-round electric SUV, NIO EL8 – premium six-seat luxury electric SUV, NIO ET5 – mid-size smart electric sedan, NIO ET5 Touring – electric tourer for lifestyle versatility.

NIO is not only introducing its premium lineup but also debuting a new brand: firefly – a smart, compact electric vehicle (EV) line specifically designed for urban users and younger, sustainability-focused drivers.
The firefly brand is positioned as a high-end alternative to traditional city cars, offering intelligent features typically reserved for larger, more expensive vehicles.
While compact in size, firefly EVs are built on NIO’s advanced software and hardware platforms, meaning they come equipped with AI-powered voice assistant, smart navigation and real-time updates, over-the-air updates and connected services.
