Used cars from Germany most popular among Romanian buyers

Most imported vehicles in Romania come from Western Europe. Of all the imported vehicles checked by carVertical in 2024, 32.3% were imported from Germany, 17% from France, 11.7% from Belgium, 11.2% from Italy, and 7% from the Netherlands.

The main reasons are related to lower wear and tear, as vehicles from countries like Germany, Sweden, or the Netherlands tend to be better maintained, thanks to stricter service intervals and superior road infrastructure. Cars from the Netherlands and Germany, in particular, often stand out in terms of technical condition, complete service history, and lower mileage per year.

Used cars imported from Poland had a higher risk of odometer fraud, with 14.3% of checked vehicles showing discrepancies. Following closely were the US (13.9%), Spain (10.5%), Italy (10.3%), and Denmark (8.5%).

But tracking where the odometer was altered can be challenging. Often, a car arrives from abroad with a certain mileage, but local sellers manipulate the odometer reading to inflate its value.
