Most clocked second-hand cars in Romania! Toyota Prius leads with a whooping average of 180,000 kilometers

If some models are listed as having 100,000 kilometers on the odometer, their actual mileage could be double

In 2024, the Toyota Prius was the most clocked car in Romania, with 19.7% of all checked models on carVertical’s platform showing tampered odometer readings. This popular hybrid vehicle was rolled back by an average of 180,000 kilometers!

The Prius is followed by the Audi A8 (17.9%) and Porsche Cayenne (17.2%). The A8 saw an average rollback of 88,000 kilometers, while the Cayenne was clocked by 94,000 kilometers on average. As these cars are also popular in other European countries, a significant portion were probably imported into Romania, where their mileage was manipulated to increase resale value.

Toyota Prius not only ranks among the most clocked cars but also is one of the models with the highest number of kilometers rolled back. Other heavily clocked cars include the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (127,000 km), Volkswagen Sharan (110,000 km) and Volkswagen Touran (106,000 km). If such models are listed as having 100,000 kilometers on the odometer, their actual mileage could be double.

Lower percentages of tampered odometers were observed on BMW 5 Series (9.9%), Mercedes-Benz S-Class (10.4%), and BMW 7 Series (10.5%), and Peugeot 508 (10.5%). The BMW 5 Series was clocked by an average of 97,000 kilometers, Mercedes-Benz S-Class by 105,000 kilometers, BMW 7 Series by 83,000 km, and Peugeot 508 by 90,000 kilometers.
