Chinese automotive giant Chery has officially launched its operations in Romania, marking a major milestone in the company’s ongoing expansion across Europe. The brand’s entry is backed by a new partnership with AUTO ITALIA, which has been appointed as Chery’s official importer in the Romanian market.
Under the agreement, Chery will introduce its TIGGO line of SUVs, with the fourth-generation TIGGO 7 and TIGGO 8 models set to go on sale in the second half of 2025. Both models will feature the company’s latest Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) powertrain technology.
Romania is now positioned as a strategic market in the region for Chery, which reported a global sales increase of 38% in 2024, reaching more than 2.6 million vehicles sold. The automaker currently operates in over 110 countries and regions, with a global user base of more than 15 million—4.5 million of whom are located outside China.
Chery plans to introduce its mass-produced TIGGO models across multiple European markets later this year, as part of a broader push to capture growing demand for electric and hybrid vehicles on the continent. To support this expansion, Chery’s European R&D Center in Frankfurt is playing a key role in ensuring the company’s technologies meet European regulatory standards and consumer expectations.
Founded in 1997, Chery is one of China’s largest carmakers and the country’s leading passenger vehicle exporter. The company operates eight global research and development centers and employs over 18,000 engineers. In 2024, it was ranked 385th on the Fortune Global 500 list.
