Dolphin Surf is the eighth fully electric vehicle launched by BYD in Europe in under three years and the fifth model the Chinese automaker has introduced to the Romanian market. Just last month, a jury of automotive journalists named the global-market versions of this model Urban Car of the Year at the World Car of the Year awards.
The Dolphin Surf measures 3,990 mm in length, 1,720 mm in width, and 1,590 mm in height, with a 2,500 mm wheelbase. Thanks to BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, the vehicle offers a spacious interior and trunk capacity that rivals higher-class vehicles. The standard luggage capacity is 308 liters, expandable up to 1,037 liters with the rear seats folded down.
Two Blade Battery Options
The Dolphin Surf will be available with two Blade battery options: 30 kWh for the Active version, and 43.2 kWh for the Boost and Comfort versions. These configurations offer a combined WLTP range of up to 322 km, and up to 507 km in WLTP City cycle.
It features the world’s first mass-produced 8-in-1 electric powertrain system, which integrates the electric motor, reducer, on-board charger, DC converter, high-voltage distribution box, battery management unit, vehicle control unit, and motor controller into a single module.
Three Powertrain Configurations
The base version (Active) pairs the 30 kWh battery with a 65 kW motor, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.1 seconds. Boost version uses the same motor but includes the larger 43.2 kWh battery, with 0–100 km/h in 12.1 seconds. At the top of the range, the Comfort version features the 43.2 kWh battery and a more powerful 115 kW motor (220 Nm torque), reducing 0–100 km/h time to 9.1 seconds.
Fast Charging and Energy Efficiency
All variants come standard with 11 kW AC three-phase charging, enabling a full charge from 0% to 100% in approximately 3.5 hours (Active) and 5 hours (Boost and Comfort). The Active version supports DC fast charging up to 65 kW, while the Boost and Comfort models go up to 85 kW, allowing charging from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes.
Tech-Enhanced Interior
All Dolphin Surf models are equipped with a 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen that includes BYD’s latest user interface, a customizable shortcut bar, and three-finger gesture control for climate and ventilation settings. Connectivity is seamless with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.
Other features include; Voice control activated by the command ”Hi BYD”, NFC keyless entry, using a smartphone or smartwatch near the side mirror sensor, and remote pre-conditioning via the BYD smartphone app (heat or cool the cabin before entry).
All versions are equipped with BYD’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, and smart high-beam control.
Pricing and Availability
The BYD Dolphin Surf is now available for order across several European markets, with first deliveries expected starting in June. Pricing in Romania through the RABLA Plus program is as follows (VAT included):

Like all BYD models available in Romania and Europe, Dolphin Surf comes with a standard six-year vehicle warranty, and eight-year warranties for both the battery and the electric motor.
